Short History: - Established in the year 1973, ANCHALIK NAGARIK BRINDA, has a long history of 39 years. We started celebrating Durga Puja on a Sarbojonin level from the very first year of our establishment, by a group of twenty people. Slowly the localites also joined hands with us making the puja bigger and enlightened it by their eager participation. Thus the committee gained its name ANCHALIK NAGARIK BRINDA, meaning a group of local people. For the last 39 years we have been through many ups and downs but our durga puja was never at stake. Our Pratima was awarded the Best Pratima in the year 2009. On this 40^th year of celebration we have decided to celebrate the durga puja by offering the new minds a chance to interpret the sacred Durga Puja in their own way.

Theme of the Year 2013

“Gram Banglar Thakur Bari”

Over the last few years the concept of ‘Theme’ in the Durga Pujas fully grasped the communities in Kolkata. The City of Joy now sees the puja in an artistic way; either the pandal or the idol or both are made by the innovative ideas of the artists which make it look more bright and elegant. Thanks to our society for accepting the Durga Puja in new way.

                This year we want to bring forth the simple way in which the common mass of gram bangla celebrates Durga Puja. The grandeur that shines from the simple aarti diyas and the sweet smelling flowers mixed with the smell of ‘notun bhije mati’ and fragrance of blossoming ‘Kashfuls’, quite in harmony with the music of tolling copper bells enchants and binds us with the pristine gram bangla. Our main attraction is the Pandal (Mandop), the Pratima and the feeling of oneness which we often miss due to today’s rat race.
