Durga Puja is celebrated from October 20 2012 (Saturday) to October 24 2012 (Wednesday). Durgashtami is on October 22 2012 (Monday).

October 15 2012 (Monday) - Mahalaya Amavasya

October 20 2012 (Saturday) - Maha Sashti (Shashti).

October 21 2012 (Sunday) - Maha Saptami.

October 22 2012 (Monday) - Maha Ashtami. (Durgastami)

October 23 2012 (Tuesday) - Maha Navami.

October 24 2012 (Wednesday) - Vijayadasami

Durga Puja in West Bengal:

In West Bengal, Durga puja is celebrated grandly on Mahalaya, Shasthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabomi and BijoyaDashami. It starts on Shasthi when Goddess Durga is welcomed to house. There will be Durga pandal at many places.

People will go to each pandal throught night and pray Goddess Durga. Chandi Parayan, Pushpanjali, Aarti will be held with great devotion to Goddess Durga.

The process of making pandals and idols of Goddess Durga starts much in advance. Devotees will decorate their house, buy new clothes and play instruments with great devotion.

The function ends with immersion of Goddess Durga idol in rivers, lakes and seas on Dashami. During these days schools, colleges and government institutions will be declared holiday.

In rest of the country Navratri is celebrated from October 16 2012 (Tuesday) to October 23 2012 (Tuesday).
