SHIBMANDIR (The odyssey of an Institution) 

The story began nearly 200 years ago. This elegant area around the present Lake (Rabindra Sarobar) was then a marshy land with hardly any human habitation. Around that time some unknown people for some unknown reason chose to establish a couple of Shiva Lingas under the open sky.

Shibmandir’s journey began from there.In the year 1920’s when the area had its first signs of habitation,some socially-minded people chose to set up a regular institution to preserve the Shiva-Lingas.Shibmandir came into being in 1934.

The Shibmandir has now become a prime attraction of regular and occasional worshippers from far ans near.Almost all the major dates of different Hindu almanacs are regularly observed here.

Alongside,the institution has also initiated social welfare activities.In 2003,Shibmandir Seba Pratisthan was set up. It runs a free evening school for nearly 100 underprivileged children,from infant to class XII and computertraining.Its other arm is the Ambulance services which runs at rock bottom rates.

The most important date in the organization’s calendar is the Durgapuja.Shibmandir is a name that ring’s the bell and considered as torch-beraer of rich culture & heritage of our country.Our puja get enormous print and electronic media support all over the world.Shibmandir has carved out a special place among the most popular pujas in the city of joy…K O L K A T A.

Durgapuja is one of the biggest festivals of our country – India. Durgapuja is a grand homecoming of Ma Durga with her children. The time when Kolkata changes its face by decoration and light at around 3000 puja pandals for the puja hoppers. Kolkata always has been a big attraction for the foreigners during Durgapuja– A LAND OF CELEBRATION.

SHIBMANDIR is one of the most popular community puja now in KOLKATA. It draws a huge crowd of around 60 lac during puja days. Located near Rabindra Sarobar Lake on Lake Temple Road a calm and quite place.

Shibmandir have changed the entire concept of   community Durga Puja in Kolkata since 1999, by introducing ‘Theme Puja’, presenting a beautiful courtyard with ‘terracotta art of Bisnupur’,which created sensation among art lovers and media followed by archaeological aspects of Maluti Gram in 2000. Shibmandir never looked back since then and is consistent Crowd puller from 1999 till last year.Shibmandir supposed to be the Trend setter of its unique theme acknowledged by the art-lovers.

Our Pandal has been frequently visited by the most dignified members of society of every stream including quite a handful number of foreigners.

Shibmandir received extensive reviews in the print and electronic media all over the world every year. 

No wonder Shibmandir won all the major prizes announced by different organisation in the last few years for its excellent artistic presentation & valued appreciation from the puja hoppers & the art lovers. 

However, the success of all such plans depends on your participation. It is not just a question of helping with money, though that certainly is important (and don't forget the inflation!). But more important is your ideas, your help in diverse area.

Compared to the challenges that lie ahead, none of these, we are aware, is much. What is being done is only a drop in the ocean. We pray to the Almighty to give us the strength to try to make that drop just a little, little bigger.  We need your support and co-operation in this endeavor...
