Short History

The year was 1951. Most enterprising young men were taking innovative measures to do some good for their localities. The idea was to do something constructive for the locality, which, in turn, would be doing well for the country.

The local youths in the locality (Para) at the crossing of Kansaripara Road and Kundu Road, Bhowanipur, Kolkata thought about developing sports for the good of the students of the area. Mr Amal Mukherjee, Mr.Swapan Pal and Mr Jaidev Nandy are the founder members who are still living.

Thus, the student association was formed. It was christened as “Chhatra Sangha”.

Chhatra Sangha is affiliated with the Volleyball Association of West Bengal. Apart from volleyball it takes keen interest in various other sports. Local tournaments for cricket, football and badminton are regularly organised.

The kaleidoscopic lights of the Durga Puja festivities burnt at other areas, while darkness used to prevail at this area. So it was decided to organise a community Durga Puja at which people of the locality irrespective of age, class, creed could revel in the local festivity of its own from 1963.

Short description about this years puja

This year we are going to celebrate our 51years celebration. Last year our budget was approx 6lakhs. In an era of theme puja our club wishes to establish the ancient matri roop in our puja pandal. this year our pratima silpi is Mohanbashi Rudra Pal.

 Its an amazing homely atmosphere that is maintained at our puja premises during the pujas.
