The members of "Manicktalla Chaltabagan Lohapatty Durga Puja Committee" of 77, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Sarani, Kolkata - 700 009, one of the leading pujas of Kolkata are celebrating 69 years of Durga Puja. This puja is one of the oldest pujas of the north zone. The history of this puja is the most remarkable one. This puja is not a puja of any community but it is the puja of the entire mankind irrespective of any differences.

This Puja is situated near the house of the great reformer and educationist Raja Ram Mohan Roy. The land on which this puja is being celebrated from the past 69 years belonged to this great personality. Our puja began in the year 1943 by Late Shri Harilal Jaiswal, Late Shri Ram Prasad Jaiswal, Late Shri Sambhunath Pandey, Shri Harihar Jaiswal and Current President Shri Lakhichand Jaiswal. The Puja was started as a small celebration in a shop and has gradually moved on to become one of the greatest and grandest celebrated puja's of North Bengal. The objective behind the starting of this puja was to give the world the message of peace and the well being of our motherland 'India'. Since then this puja has been celebrated with great pomp and show and by the grace of goddess Durga and the blessings of our ancestors this puja has been a grand success and has completed its 69 glorious years.

"Manicktalla Chaltabagan Lohapatty Durga Puja Committee" is not only a committee for the celebration of Durga Puja but it also conducts other activities for the welfare of the society all the year round. It is for this that the committee has earned the title of a "Social Service Organization" more than a mere puja committee. Because of its various welfare activities and for its sincere dedication to the celebration of the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, the committee has been honoured with many 'Sharad Samman' every year and will continue to do the same. They shall keep the tradition going and prepare their future generations to carry on this work which was started by their ancestors' ahead successfully.

The committee takes special care to make the puja environment-friendly. Part of the lighting here is done by Solar Power. Wheelchairs for the elderly and physically challenged and CCTV cameras for monitoring security are some of the arrangements at the pandal. And apart from pomp and merrymaking, the committee makes it a point to include social activities a part of the celebration every year.
